Deconstructing Books

Tammys Blog 028a

This seems to be a big trend right now, deconstructed books. And I for one am in love with the organic look of this. While cleaning out the cubby in my daughters room, getting ready for a makeover in there. I came across this box of old books and a light went on.

So this is just a quick little tah da, to show how quickly and easily you too can achieve this look. Don’t pay big bucks for these type of books, do it yourself.

I started with one box of old books. I did evaluate every book. One was a first edition, so I put that aside, and was blue so I kept that. The rest gone with the covers. Using a scissors, I scored inside the cover at the bend and they ripped right off. Done.

This is a much cleaner look. Did I say cleaner, there are strings hanging off these books, but yes, it is a much more cohesive look, easy on the eyes, and pleasing to the eye.

That’s it really, a very simple, fun, project. Hope this inspires you to use some of those books you have stored up in your attic for home d├ęcor.

Thanks for Stopping by the Blog

  1. If you can’t or don’t want to use your own books, I would recommend stopping by your local library. I bet they books on sale or for free that would work.

    • Yes Paula, that is a great idea. I often find books for free on a table in our local mall. I will be keeping my eye out now for more. I was always so picky about the covers before, but now it doesn’t really matter.
