Apothecary Jars

One of the most simple and quick ways to decorate is to fill clear glass containers with various items and set them out for display. They can be functional or just for pretty. There are any number of glass containers available at just about every department store, discount store, and even dollar store, and at every price point. One of my favorite kind of jars to fill are Apothecary jars. I have five that I rotate around my dining room on different table tops filled with some lovely finds from garden shops and other places. I display them as a group and they are various sizes.

Psssst-This red room is getting a makeover soon!

In the summer time I fill one with sea shells I’ve collected over my life, one with star fish I purchased at a garden center and one with some green moss I picked up at Pottery Barn. At holiday time you can fill them with ornaments and balls, cinnamon sticks and potpourri. The ideas are endless.

One sat on my kitchen counter at one time filled with artificial lemons.

Valentines Day and Easter would be a nice time to fill them with color coordinated candies, M and M’s, sweet tarts, and those tiny cinnamon red hearts, would be pretty.  I love the idea of using some jars in my bathroom filled with soaps and other bathroom necessities.

These sit on my bathroom fireplace, and are functional. Or how cute would it be to fill a glass container with nail polishes, you know how many of them we have laying around.

You could even use one as a terrarium and grow a little plant in it. Or if you have one that the lid is missing on, what about a pet fish. Try to think outside the box. If you decide to purchase some type of container, try to get an odd number of like containers and use them as a group for more of an impact.

All of my jars were purchased at TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Homegoods. And ranged in price from $5.99 to $19.99.

If you have a unique idea for using your glass container, I would love to hear about it.
