Hello my people.
It is that time of year when all the clutter, I mean magic of Christmas is stripped away. I am ready to clean this place up, clear away the clutter, glitter, flocking, you know what I mean. However, I certainly don’t want to loose the comfy, cozy, layers of magic. I want to continue to feel all snuggly and warm, when I sit in my spaces, lighting a fire, cuddling under a throw and sipping a warm drink, ahhhhh doesn’t that sound so amazing. Maybe I will even read a book, and learn something, or shop, yes, shopping sounds fun. I am certainly not ready to wish Winter away. I am not one to drive in the snow or ice, I stay safely at home. I will barely leave the house for the next two or three months. I turn the thermostat up one degree, just to take a shower. We have, old radiators, so once you nudge up the heat it kicks on and everything gets toasty. I spend much of the Winter, nesting so to speak, trying to stay warm, and simply enjoying all the Hygge feels.
So, in order to hang on to that lovely cozy feel, I add back in a few things. As I am packing up my Christmas, I am pulling a few things aside to use in a different way. For instance, I had a big floral arrangement on my dining room table. I pulled it apart, removed all the glittery, sparkly things ,and used the greenery to make an arrangement for my Mantle.
Its so interesting to me, that all those old dead branches that are laying around on the ground in your yard, look almost like art in your home, when placed in a glass vase. A friend of mine suggested hanging an ornament on one of the branches, and I did just that, I love it. I also added a few crystal chandelier pieces. One year I strung some lights on the branches, this year I added them to another vase.
There are quite a few things you can use in a different way to keep the magic alive. I love adding those baby firefly led lights, anywhere and everywhere. Boxwood wreaths and garlands are a nice way to still keep a little green around, maybe add some baby string lights. Β Doesn’t green just scream life. Plants are all the rage again, I picked up several last year. I have spent the last week, trimming the dead leaves, giving them a little spritz of water, and rearranging them for a fresh modern look. I am hoping to add another plant or two this year, they make me happy. I will share all about that soon. Candles, anything that glows, so flameless candles or real wax candles, what ever works for your lifestyle. I had a mantle full of mix of both, for Christmas. I have whittled it down to just the flameless ones now, that way I don’t have to remember to light them.
I am just starting to layer in a few new things, into this Living Room, the look is about to change a bit. We are shuffling some couches around, and moving the Leather couch into this space. I’m excite, change gets my creative juices flowing. I/ll check back soon with all those details.
Anyway, do what ever works for you, gives you a warm and cozy experience, and helps you get through the winter months.
Thanks, Tammy
I LOVE your blog!!!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that.
Just found you! Like!!!
Tell me about your round white table. Did it come with wheels? Where can I purchase it?
Also, where do I buy the tiny lights? HELP!
I recommend lighter drapes for your windows. Try just draping a lace curtain across the top.
NICE for winter!
Tammy – I adore that large wooden “vase” thing on your mantle – wow – where on earth did you find something so wonderful? Wish my mantle was beefy enough to hold something like that!
Love your blog – over from Thistlewood Farms, finding you for first time.
Thank you, I just got an update on my blog and I am working on linking things. I will check on that and link in soon, so check back. Thanks for stopping by the Blog.
Tammy,
I cannot remember the first place I discovered The Cultivated Home. Where ever it was, I am happy to have landed now on this blog post via Thistlewoods Farm Thistlekeeping.
