A journey to truly finding those pieces that make your heart sing, and your house feel like home. #sponsored
If you have followed me on Instagram for any length of time you know, we have been doing a full first floor update, we switched rooms around, moved eleven pieces of furniture from here to there, sold a few pieces on Facebook Marketplace, and purchased a couple new pieces. I literally carried almost every single piece of decor and art out of my Dining Room, Living Room and Family Room, and placed it all into our basement to store it temporarily and to allow me to look at the spaces with fresh eyes. Then we moved the furniture out of one space and painted everything in that room, then added back the new pieces, and moved on to the next space. We removed a built in Fireplace and hearth from our Living Room, refinished the floor underneath and painted every ceiling, wall, and piece of molding a fresh coat of paint, then onto the next room, we did that five time, room by room and still have some work in the kitchen. We washed windows and curtains, which I steamed once they were hung. It was a lot of work, a long but enjoyable journey and took about two full months to complete. Side note: I still have a couple things to tackle.
Next up we started moving in the other direction, we got to the part where we move all of the furniture back into its “new spot”, so much fun. After that we tackled a few pieces of furniture rehab. We saved an old draftmans tabletop my Dad gave me when he was alive and turned it into a working table for potting and crafts, and repurposed a vintage Sideboard into a Modern, trendy, TV Console that looks so high end, and is made so well it would cost thousands today.
Now lets get into the fun stuff, I have been slowly shopping my own decor and trying to decide what to bring back into the space, what do I really truly love, and what do I want to see. The truth is I’m finding that less really is more these days. I’m keeping it very simple for now. I’m going for a casual warm but airy vibe, it is literally collected, curated and cultivated by me. Most of the pieces I am bringing back I have had for some time.
As I shop the pieces I already have and love, I am finding myself drawn to simple vessels, crocks, vases, bowls, all the pieces that actually have a purpose and work to serve me in some way. I am keeping the art minimal, and of course fabulous lighting. Always keeping my neutral color pallet in mind and adding texture where ever I can for interest.
The icing on the cake, and a few pieces I always return to, and I’ve had for years are from Serena & Lily. #slpartner Realizing that I love the beautiful, timeless, and classic look of these pieces, I ordered a few more, that I will share those with you soon. They simply never go out of style so they are worth investing in. I only have a few, but I love them so much. They elevate the look of everything else so I work to sprinkle a few here and there, mixed in with everything else. Lets chat about a few.
These Scalloped Capiz Hurricanes, are one of my favorites and they add such a dreamy feel to any space. I love the pure white glow of the shell from the tiny stands of lights I placed inside, but a candle is as beautiful, I have used both real flame and flameless candles.
They look beautiful layered as a center piece, or sideboard for some drama, but when I added them to this South Seas Bar Cart, in black, they really made a statement, so there is where they will stay.
I brought these Cuesta Pillow Cover, back into this space from my bedroom, and they are made from the most luxurious fabric, tons of beautiful texture but soft enough for a nap and that’s a win for me.
Lastly these perfectly appointed, lightweight, Brela Napkins, are a great choice for Summer and would be a lovely addition to any setting. Stacked on a bar cart, tucked on a breakfast tray, or rolled and stuffed into a glass at everyones seat.
I love seeing my home constantly but subtly change, but this was a different experience. I really do feel like we moved out and then back into our home, but set everything up differently. Loving my new spaces and the new way I’m using tried and true pieces that always make it sparkle. I hope you enjoyed me sharing a glimpse into some of it with you today.
